Hunting for a new, durable, and up-to-date laptop that is a price-performance monster? Here are the best laptops for under 1000 dollars in Canada for you!
A thousand dollars is always the optimal price for a new laptop, regardless of time. In the 1990s, when my father brought a computer to our home, it worked much better than others of that era.
It was, of course, paltry if you compare it to the laptops of our day. Yet, my dad paid 1000 dollars for that laptop. It had 32 megabytes of RAM and 128 GB of HDD capacity. The price of a computer suitable for an average computer user has never changed.
So, that is why we list the laptops worth $1000 or below. There are overachieving laptops on our list and low-budget gaming systems. If you are about to buy a new laptop, you might also like our quick guide to buying a new notebook.

HP Laptop 2020 17.3”
This one is a no-brainer when you compare it with the rest of the laptops available in the Canadian market. HP’s 2020 model, with its 17.3-inch display size, is the best laptop under 1,000 dollars.
RAM
It has 16 GB RAM. This is the best one on our list. Moreover, it employs DDR4 RAM, which is suitable for energy consumption.
Even though modern laptops have much better RAM capacities nowadays, that would bump the price over a thousand. 16 GB is good for many daily tasks and even some AAA games.
Storage Capacity
Today, laptops do not have very high storage capacities due to the rise of external hard disks and cloud storage services. Similarly, HP Laptop does not have a massive capacity with its 256 GB SSD.
Yet, on our list, only one laptop tops this one: the Asus Gaming laptop with its enormous 1 TB capacity.
Processor
HP Laptop is again capping the top spot in this one with its almost professional processor. It has a 3.90 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, an absolute beast. It makes this laptop work smoothly without burning your thighs.
Physical Features and Others
It is the largest screen on our list, as we mentioned earlier. Moreover, it does not have the disadvantage that many wide-screen laptops have.
It is very lightweight compared to its size. It weighs only 5.5 pounds (2.5 kilograms), making it easier to take to work.
In addition to that, the battery is not the best here. Even the first battery lasted less than 5 hours, and I would have liked it to drain slower.
Bottomline
To sum up, this is the best laptop under 1,000 dollars if you do not mind the relatively low battery life. It will work perfectly for over 3 or 4 years until it becomes outdated.
Pros
- Great processor
- Pretty good DDR4 RAM
- Extremely widescreen
Cons
- Somehow low battery life

Lenovo Chromebook C330
Chromebooks were once a trendy choice among laptop users; however, their popularity was just a flash in the pan. Yet, it has recently made its comeback, and Lenovo made a great Chromebook, and it makes our best laptops list.
RAM
As a Chromebook is suitable for a casual laptop user, the RAM is far from very powerful but somewhere in the middle.
The better Chromebook option on our list is the HP’s, which has 4 GB LPDD RAM. As a comparison, HP has 8 GB SDRAM.
Indeed, it is enough for surfing the internet, using word processors, and casually watching movies and videos on YouTube. Yet, having multiple windows at once might slow your laptop down.
HDD
Secondly, like all the other Chromebooks, it has minimal storage space. This one works on eMMC, a memory card; its storage is 64 gigabytes.
If you download too many programs and want to work through this laptop, you may want to look for a different option. The storage is relatively paltry here, and there is no way to upgrade it.
Battery Life
However, what makes the Lenovo C330 particular is its never-ending battery life. In our tests, we just left Google Chrome open to see how long it takes.
This is simply because brands tend to exaggerate such features in their advertisements. So, the C330 says 10 hours, and for us, it took 10 and 23 minutes to drain the battery fully.
This is much better than the other laptops in this sense, even beating the other Chromebook option, the HP Chromebook.
Others
Lastly, let’s delve deeper into its physical features. It is undoubtedly as light as a feather, weighing only 2.64 pounds (1.2 kilograms), and it has quite a small display size, sitting at only 11.6 inches.
It is much lighter than the other laptops on our list but has one of the smallest display sizes.
Bottomline
The Lenovo C330 model is an outstanding laptop for those who want comfortable internet use. It is not a huge burden to carry it around while the charging cables stay at home.
Even though its RAM capacity is lower than desired, it is still a decent choice.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Long-lasting battery
Cons
- Low RAM and HDD

A Quick Guide to Buying a New Laptop!
There are a few things to consider when buying a laptop. As we do not buy a computer every week, we have to consider our priorities and aims, then choose carefully!
Purpose
So, the purpose of the system is essential. Are you a casual web surfer? Do you want to use it professionally? Is battery life necessary for you? These are the questions you need to ask yourself.
If you only use your computer to check the news and access your social media, your expectations from a laptop would differ greatly from a graphic designer.
Similarly, you need a better graphics card if you plan to use it for gaming. Higher RAM would be helpful if you usually have a lot of windows open at the same time.
Battery Life
Taking your computer to your workplace is a process that should not involve lots of cables. So, check the expected battery life unless you want to experience some unfortunate drained battery incidents.
For most users, at least 4 to 5 hours of battery life is enough, but again think of your purpose first.
Hardware
Ideally, you should take a look at laptops with better hardware. Of course, this bumps the price up. However, a better graphics card, RAM, and higher HDD storage would give you a great advantage.
Mostly, we do not bother ourselves with upgrading the laptop pieces individually. We just use it until we cannot look for a new one. A better system will extend the life of a computer.
Size
Lastly, the size. The size is essential because it is not something you can upgrade later. You just need to find one that fits the best for you. If you need it to be portable, check for a smaller size. Larger screens will have their advantages, such as better screen quality.
After thoroughly reading this article I am no closer to knowing what computer i should purchase.
