Throughout the BuyItCanada.com directory you will notice links with different colors in the description area.  These colored links (green, gold, beige, purple, pink, etc.) represent merchants, retailers and businesses that have paid for this enhanced link service through revenue sharing and/or paid advertising. What are the rules for adding my Canadian link to the BuyItCanada.com directory?* We track and record ALL IP Addresses with link submissions to this directory. Your activity may be monitored and your IP Address may be added to an IP block list if your IP Address and link submission are not Canadian. Find the best regional category for your Canadian link and click on Add-a-Link at the top or bottom of that category page. Ensure this is a best fit category for your link! Submissions are restricted to Canadian sites with their own TOP LEVEL DOMAIN name.** Your ONE link submission (*per physical location) to our Canadian Directory is free of charge. You may upgrade to a "Premium Link" for a fee (+ taxes) depending on category selection and availability. For more info click here. Ensure the URL (web site address) you submit is correct, spelling is correct and pages are free of error messages. DO NOT SUBMIT IN ALL CAPS. DO NOT include HTML codes or markups in your submission. DO NOT include phone numbers, email addresses, dates and/or pricing in your link description. DO NOT submit descriptions in point/bullet format. Sites under construction will not be accepted. Sites with annoying pop up windows will not be accepted. Sites with illegal content and/or offensive language are strictly forbidden and IP addresses associated with these sites are forwarded to the proper authorities. Sites that accept online payments and/or request personal user information (online stores) should have a privacy policy/statement and appropriate contact information. *You can submit one free link per local category for each location you operate your business.  For example, you operate 22 computer stores in 22 cities throughout Canada.  This would entitle you to submit one free link for each store (22 cities), provided the category and directory existed for each city market.  Once your links have been approved, you could then upgrade all 22 links to Premium Links at a volume discounted price. *** Submission does not guarantee inclusion in the directory. Assuming you have not violated any of the above submission rules and conditions, your link will appear within 10 business days. How do I add or modify my Canadian link in the BuyItCanada.com directory? To add your link to the directory: Find the best regional (local) category for your link. Click on Add-a-Link at the top or bottom of the page. If there is no Add-a-Link on the page, you cannot add your link to that category. Read and follow the instructions on the Add-a-Link submission page carefully. Complete the form and submit as a free link. To modify your existing link in the directory: Go to the page where your link is. Click on your link. After your page has loaded highlight your URL (address), right click and copy it to your clipboard. Go back to the directory page (back) where your link is and click on Modify-a-Link. Paste your URL in the required boxes URL (box 1) and URL. If you are changing your URL insert the new URL only in the URL box and NOT URL (box 1). Complete the form and double check your spelling. Click on the Modify-a-Link button below the form and wait for confirmation. Changes will NOT appear immediately after your confirmation as all modifications must be approved by the editor before your changes will appear in the directory. Assuming you have not violated any submission rules, your link modifications will appear within 10 business days. No notice is given by the editor when the changes are approved so you will want to check back frequently to see if your link has changed. Do you have an email/spam policy? If you have submitted a Canadian link to the BuyItCanada.com directory (free link or Premium link), you will receive a confirmation email if your link is approved and added to the database. If you have paid for the Premium link placement service you will receive an additional email confirming your payment. This email can come from either the BuyItCanada.com web site and/or through a third party site such as Paypal, depending on your payment method you have chosen. Subsequently you will receive renewal notices that your Premium link (paid link) is set to expire and you will have the option to renew your premium placement. Only under these circumstances will you will receive an email from BuyItCanada.com.We will never ask you for banking/credit card information. The most common problems include: The URL submitted was not a top level domain. www.yourname.com. Simple rule is if the name is not in the whois database the URL submitted does not get added to the directory. Your contact info must be Canadian either in the whois database or on your contact page. Sites that do not provide this basic contact information (physical address) are automatically deleted. The URL of the site submitted does not exist at all (bad URL). Test it before you submit it. The site is not Canadian. The site indicates it is under construction. The site submitted has not been placed in the appropriate category. 95% of all rejected links were submitted to the wrong category and/or city/region location. The URL submitted is a duplicate. Use search to find your link if you don't know where it is. Search by Name or URL. For URL include http:// with your domain name. Your link submission has not yet been verified. Link submissions may take up to two weeks. Be patient, if approved, a confirmation email will be sent once your link has been added to the directory. I have modified my link and the changes do not appear in the directory. While modifications are updated on a regular basis, these updates/changes may not appear until the next database update (usually within 5-10 business days). If your modification does not appear after this time this may be an indication that your modification was denied. No email notification is provided with the modify-a-link free service. My web site link use to be in the directory but now I don't see it there anymore. What happened? Several time a year we check the status of each link in the directory. When a link produces an error (Bad URL format, Could not connect, Forbidden, File Not found, Internal Error, etc) the link is flagged to have the status rechecked in a few days. If three failed attempts are recorded, the link in question is removed/deleted from the database. If you find that your active link is no longer in the database you may resubmit your link. Ensure the link you submit is in fact active (does not produce an error message). I do not reside in Canada. Can I submit a link for my web site? Site submissions are restricted to Canadians who maintain a web site in Canada. If you are not a Canadian citizen or do not reside in Canada do not not submit your link. Remember we track IP, remote host, date, time, etc. for ALL information submitted via forms in the BuyItCanada.com web site. We know where you are, your IP address, which page/site referred you and who you are. We reserve the right to block any IP address that does not conform to our submission policies. What do you mean by appropriate category? The BuyItCanada.com web site is a Canadian regional based directory. If you submit a link to a regional category (for example Toronto Computers) and you are located in a different region (for example - you have a computer store in Windsor) your link will not be added. Do not add your link if no suitable category exists in the directory. Do you check URL submissions? Simple answeris yes. All links submitted via the Add-a-Link page must pass through a series of hoops (automated and manual) before the final step of manually checking to determine the physical/geographical location of the site owner/admin contact. This is done via the contact information provided in the web site and/or via the whois database. Location (for our purposes) is based on the administrative contact information in the whois database for the domain being checked. If a physical location cannot be determined, the link submission is automatically deleted. Canadian Sites whose hosting companies are in the United States are accepted provided the admin contact address in the whois database is in Canada. Can I add multiple links of the same Canadian web site? You can only add links to categories in which you maintain a physical address. For example if you operate computer stores in Cambridge, Guelph and Toronto you are allowed to add your link to each Cambridge, Guelph and Toronto Computer categories. Adding your link to inappropriate categories will only get you banned. Are Canadian link submissions free of charge? Your one link submission is absolutely free unless you choose to pay for "Premium Site" service. This site is 100% free of charge for all who visit this site and for those Canadians who submit their one web site link to the database/directory.
