International Festival of Animated Objects
A uniquely Calgarian bi-annual celebration of masks, puppets, and all things animated. Mainstage shows, workshops, and screenings for adults and children.
2005 IFAO featured Ronnie Burkett, Phillip Huber (of "Being John Malkovich"), Mooky Cornish (of Cirque du Soliel), and more. The IFAO is produced by CAOS, Calgary Animated Objects Society, and is curated by Xstine P. Cook (a founder and former co-artistic director of Green Fools Theatre).
WordFest
WordFest takes place at numerous venues over a five-day period each fall in Calgary and Banff. Main locations are Calgary’s Vertigo Theatre Playhouse and Studio and The Banff Centre. The Festival has also been expanding to include a number of readings and other events that take place at other times throughout the year.
Calgary International Spoken Word Festival
In late April, downtown Calgary explodes with scorching wordplay, rhythms and beats performed by local and international Spoken Word artists.
